Film starts a bit differently than the book, but that is ok, because we get our first glimpse of “Minister of Magic, Rufus Scrimogeur,” as he was absent in the previous film. I was happy to hear that Bill Nighy would be portraying the Minister of Magic, but was disheartened after the opening scene. He seemed to be overacting a bit, and just seemed to be doing a repeat performance of “Davy Jones” from “Pirates of the Caribbean.” I was expecting “Jack Sparrow” to saunter into the scene.

Then, we get to what was the opening scene in the book, only slightly different. We see “Severus Snape” flying through the air, landing in-front of a tall, iron gate. Walking at a steady pace, he walks straight through it. In the book, he was accompanied by “Yaxley,” another Death Eater. Everything else following seems to shadow the book rather closely. Following, we are treated to 2 scenes not included in the book, but really helps to advance the character development of “Ron Weasley” and “Hermione Granger.” But, these scenes came with the price of not getting that sense of closure felt in the book during the third chapter, “The Dursley’s Departing.” But, I guess that wasn’t all that important to the development of the main plot.

When the time comes for Harry to depart from Number Four, Privet Drive, the events are very similar to that of the book, with a couple of changes. Number one would be how Harry is discovered to be the real “Harry Potter.” In the book, it is a spell, that has become a bit of a “trademark” of Harry’s, that outs Harry. But the change made flows directly into the second, major, change: the unfortunate death of “Hedwig.” In the book, she dies in a rather anti-climactic way, stuck in her cage. In the film, Harry is discovered to be the real “Harry Potter” when Hedwig, who has been released from her cage by Harry before they take-off, attacks a Death Eater who is attempting to kill Harry. She is struck with the Killing Curse, giving her a “Hero’s Exit.” This change was welcomed, as I felt that it gave “Hedwig” her “moment.”

The filmmakers decided to leave off the introduction of “Tonks’s” parents, choosing to have Harry and Hagrid land outside of The Burrow. Everything from now, until the departure of Harry, Ron, and Hermione, is very condensed, but that is fine. The only gripe I have about it is that when “Rufus Scrimogeur” appears to give Harry, Ron, and Hermione what was left to them by “Albus Dumbledore,” no mention is made of the absurdity that the Ministry of Magic took 31 days to examine Dumbledore’s belongins, thinking that he left the 3 of them items to help in the fight against “Lord Voldemort,” and not wanting the Ministry to look bad. Nor is there mention about the cover-ups by the Ministry. And, again, missing was the intense confrontation between Harry and Scrimogeur.

When they depart, the film follows the events in the book very closely, omitting a lot of the dragging traveling scenes. But, thankfully, they kept in(and honored very much) the scene in the book when Ron, who has kept the locket on for far too long, argues with Harry, and leaves them behind. Rupert Grint really did an outstanding job in this scene. Then, we stumble along a bit, until we reach the much anticipated “Godric’s Hollow” scene.

This was everything I expected it to be, right down to “Bathilda Bagshot’s” secret. When reading the book, I was curious how they could possibly make a scene in-which a snake possesses a corpse, and then does battle with Harry and Hermione. But, David Yates did a fantastic job of making this a reality. Next up, is the return of Ron. This was an excellently done scene, which included the destruction of the first Horcrux, in this book. It was beautifully shot, and the graphics were exquisite. With the only exception being the, awkward, semi-nude, make-out vision presented to Ron, of Hermione(whom he has taken a real liking to) and Harry(his, obvious, best friend), to dissuade him in destroying the Horcrux. The feeling, during this part, was of distinct discomfort, sprinkled with a few chuckles.

Everything following these events is almost directly read out of the book, leading up to the climax of the film. I was extremely happy with where, and how, they decided to end this film. I felt that the scene showing “Voldemort” destroying “Albus Dumbledore’s” sarcophagus to retrieve the “Elder Wand,” which was buried with the great wizard, was expertly done. But, the greatest moments of this film, is in the final moments of my favorite character: “Dobby the Freed House Elf.”

I won’t lie, I was a bit bummed when I read the book, when I reached the part in-which Dobby dies. Even going so far as to say that my eyes became misty, but I never imagined that this wonderful, understated character, would get the glorious treatment that he did, in his final moments on film. They kept in his speech, showing that he truly loved Harry Potter and his friends, and would do whatever he could to protect them. The speech was emotional, and wonderfully spoke by Toby Jones.

So, in conclusion, I must say: This film is probably the best one of the series, in-terms of acting, character development, and story-telling. Things could have been changed to portray characters better, such as “Scrimogeur” and “Bill Weasley.” I also wish that “Viktor Krum” would have been included. Although he only had a small part in the book, it was important. This film really feels like the “Empire Strikes Back” of the series, and leaves me excitedly anticipating the final installment. This is a great movie for, not only Potter fans, but film buffs, as well. Go check it out.

Emma Watson has announced which Ivy League school she'll be attending in the autumn.

The 19-year-old, who plays Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter franchise, previously said that she was attracted to American universities because of the anonymity she feels they can afford her.

The actress has now confirmed that she will be a student at Brown University in Rhode Island, People reports.

"I am [going to university in the autumn] - to Brown, which is an Ivy League establishment in the USA. I've got a place there to read literature," she said.

Her choice of school was also accidentally leaked by co-star Daniel Radcliffe in an interview with The Guardian, after speculation grew following her tour of US schools last October.

Watson recently admitted that she hoped her college roommate wouldn't be a Potter fan.

“Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince” generated $158 million in sales in its first five days in U.S. and Canadian theaters, trailing “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” for the best such opening this year.

The film, released by Time Warner Inc. on July 15, had ticket revenue of $77.8 million for the three-day weekend, researcher Hollywood.com Box-Office said today in an e-mailed statement.

“This is amazing because the franchise is eight years in, and really still that relevant,” said Paul Dergarabedian, an analyst at Hollywood.com Box-Office, in a telephone interview.

The company’s Warner Bros. film studio plans two more Potter movies based on the seventh book, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.” The first five grossed $1.4 billion in the U.S. and Canada starting in 2001 and $4.48 billion worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo LLC, which also tracks receipts.

I’m not tempted by parties or drugs. I don’t actually like being drunk, particularly in public. But I do understand why people get sucked into a party lifestyle. I can see how it happens so I’d never criticise someone who gets into all that. It can get pretty tough. But you have choices in life. If I want to lead as private and as normal a life as possible I just can’t go there. So I don’t.’
She grins. ‘Daniel (Radcliffe), Rupert (Grint) and me have been incredibly protected doing the Harry Potter movies. There seems to be this feeling that all of us were bursting to break out of these images we had created but that’s never been the case. We all share the same view. The Australian Herald Sun has released a new interview with Dan Radcliffe, where the Harry Potter gives his thoughts about the upcoming Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and the two Deathly Hallows films. Of HBP he says he thinks they have struck a type of balance between the darker, intensity found in the sixth book and a bit of humor. Dan says "I mean, the one thing when I read the script I could always yearn for was more darkness and more of that real intense stuff, because I enjoy doing that more, but hopefully this time we have struck a balance between that darkness and a certain comedy in this film. "And what I think we've managed to do is not make it that kind of comedy that is farcical and pulling faces. "It's not that kind of comedy at all, it's much more subtle than that and hopefully people will find it funny - that's the aim anyway.''
Of particular interest are Dan Radcliffe's comments on the the two Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows films, and book purists feelings about the Harry Potter films. Quotage: "I think when the fans came on to the first film there would have been a section of the audience that didn't want to like it because they were the purists of the book,'' he says. "There are still those people out there, but you are never going to change their minds so just don't even try.
"So I think the majority of the people out there, because the fan base has grown at about the rate the films have come out, we've managed to keep making them darker and dark enough to maintain the interests of these people.

"And I think actually through making the films darker we've gained a lot. And also through people like (director) David Yates directing them, a certain amount of respect has been gained for the films as cinema.''

Actor Tom Felton paid a visit to the future home of "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter" theme park attraction during a trip to Universal Orlando, Florida. A new interview appeared online from TheaterMania featuring actor Dan Radcliffe (Harry Potter) discussing his role in the play Equus and of returning to the Harry Potter films early next year. The interview features Mr. Radcliffe commenting on the work ethic that his parents instilled in him which lead to his not yet missing a performance of the play on Broadway. The interview continues with Mr. Radcliffe discussing the transition back into Harry Potter once his Broadway run concludes. The young actor says the following of transition back into the role when filming for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows begins:

"As soon as I put those glasses on, and as soon as I get back on that set, it's going to be like, 'Yeah, okay, here I am again.' ... Harry, by now, is a character that I am very, very comfortable with. And there is a lot of myself in Harry, so it shouldn't be too hard to transition back to."

The interview concludes with talk of Mr. Radcliffe's Equus costars, the recent Gypsy of the Year performance, a possible future of musical theater, a return to Broadway after Harry Potter, and New Years' resolutions. In regards to his resolution for 2009, Mr. Radcliffe states:

"To make the next Potter film the best its ever been and to work harder on it than I ever have before. Even though I've worked hard before, I want to make it even better."

Q: When you got into acting with Harry Potter, did you believe things would turn out the way they have?

A: No. Actually, I had a weird reality-check moment earlier today. I was sitting at a table with Matthew Broderick on my left, and Sigourney Weaver and Dustin Hoffman to my right. It was surreal. I've no idea how I came to be part of an unbelievable cast.

Q: What are the things you don't like about acting?

A: The red carpet can be a pretty intimidating place, but it's fun to dress up and get ready.

Q: Once Harry Potter ends, are there any actors you would like to work with or any type of genre you want to do?

A: I'd love to do a period drama, a musical. I'd love to do a small independent film. I want to do everything.

Q: What kind of things do you do to relax?

A: I paint, I draw. I like being creative and I like photographs. I wander around an art gallery or I'll make someone a birthday card. I'll watch a film with a friend or cook some dinner.

Emma, 18, said: "The wealth side of it hasn't hit me yet because I have no need for money in my life. My life will not be motivated by money.

"I will never do a film because they're going to pay me a certain amount of money. It's liberating. It means I can hopefully make great choices."

The British actress also insists she has not adopted a lavish lifestyle despite starring in six 'Harry Potter' films, and still uses public transport.

She added to USA Today newspaper: "I have a more normal life than people expect. When I take public transport, people are like, 'That girl looks like the girl from 'Harry Potter', but it can't be her on the train.'

"I get stopped by people, but that's fine. I'd never want to be so famous that I couldn't live a normal life to a certain extent. I can't imagine anything lonelier, just not being able to be part of the real world and being trapped and locked in hotel rooms and cars."

"I have a really supportive family and a full life away from Harry Potter. It's unlikely that I'll be part of anything this big ever again, so I need to deal with that.

"I'm not going to take a job just because, s***, I'm not doing anything else.

"I'm going to have a battle on my hands, because after Harry Potter has finished, I don't know. I definitely want to go to university.

"I'm at a strange age. I'm not a woman yet, but I'm not a girl any more. [Film companies] say, 'Oh, in a couple of years you'll be perfect for this.' I'll be like, yeah, but I want to be studying English then, so it's going to be quite tough to choose between the two."

The actress said she felt under pressure to date Potter co-stars Daniel Radcliffe or Rupert Grint, saying: "The public are desperate for it. It would literally be like [a royal marriage]. Luckily, luckily . . . It would be such a nightmare."

But the teenager said she already has a boyfriend and when asked if she was in love, she blushed and said: "I don't know."

But of course it's Rowling who is the author — and illustrator. Her black-and-white drawings have charm but are not of professional caliber.

Bard originated as a gift Rowling made for friends. It is now being published for the general public (3.5 million copy first printing) to raise money for children in Eastern European institutions.

The book's first tale again reveals why Rowling is a genius with words, blessed with wisdom, a sly wit and an effortless prose style.

"The Wizard and the Hopping Pot" concerns a selfish young wizard who inherits a magic cauldron from his father. When he refuses to help the Muggle (human) villagers, the cauldron torments him until the young wizard learns the value of being a good neighbor.

For a brief, horrifying second, you wonder: Why is Rowling channeling William Bennett's moralistic Children's Book of Virtues?

Dumbledore to the rescue. Of the first story, he notes, "A simple and heartwarming fable, one might think — in which case, one would reveal oneself to be an innocent nincompoop."

Then, in his trademark gently humorous manner, Dumbledore offers historical perspective on this "good neighbor" stuff from the witch and wizard side. In the 15th century, "offering to cast a spell on the Muggle next door's sickly pig was tantamount to volunteering to fetch the firewood for one's own funeral pyre."

Of course Rowling isn't recommending being mean to one's neighbors. But the centuries-long battle between wizards and Muggles was complicated. Part of Rowling's gift is her willingness to explore complicated topics in a children's book.

The “Harry Potter” hottie arrived at the Casa Del Mar Hotel along with her entourage to spend a few hours relaxing before throwing on her vintage peacoat and heading on her way.

And though she’s definitely enjoying her time on the west coast, Miss Watson is officially in town on business, having arrived at LAX International Airport earlier this week.

This Saturday, December 6, the cast of EQUUS on Broadway will auction off the Lucky Brand jeans worn in the play by its young star Daniel Radcliffe as part of the company's campaign to raise money for the annual Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS fall fundraising drive. Following tomorrow's 2 p.m. matinee performance, audience members can bid for Mr. Radcliffe's costume jeans - autographed (live!) by Mr. Radcliffe - during a brief and merry onstage auction at the Broadhurst Theatre (235 W. 44 St.) where EQUUS is being performed through February 8, 2009.

The jeans being auctioned to the highest bidder are worn throughout the performance of EQUUS by Daniel Radcliffe, who portrays Alan Strang, a mild-mannered stable boy with a dark, mysterious secret that finally comes to light when he meets and is seduced by a beautiful young woman - a scene during which the two young actors appear naked and Mr. Radcliffe removes the jeans to be auctioned.

Tomorrow marks the third and final time that Daniel Radcliffe will auction his EQUUS jeans onstage. Daniel's other two pair of Lucky Brand jeans have netted an impressive total of $1,750 for BC/EFA. While declining to quote the exact amount raised so far by EQUUS, a company member did admit the figure is in the tens-of-thousands of dollars and expressed gratitude to the audiences who have given so generously to the fund-drive thus far.

Highlights of other post-show auctions at EQUUS have included such unique items as EQUUS co-star Richard Griffiths' autographed "Space Pen," which he uses in the play ($1000) and co-star Kate Mulgrew's rehearsal script autographed by the entire cast. The latter pulled in $2,000 from one of Kate's loyal "Star Trek: Voyager" fans. Previously, t-shirts worn by Mr. Radcliffe have sold for up to $800.

EQUUS is Peter Shaffer's play about a stable boy (Daniel Radcliffe) who has committed a serious crime, and the court-appointed psychiatrist (Richard Griffiths) who is charged with revealing the mysteries behind the boy's behavior while confronting his own self-doubt in his marriage, his profession and his life.

Daniel Radcliffe is best known for playing the title role in all five of the "Harry Potter" films to date, and he will star again in the sixth, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," due out July 2009.

Under the direction of Thea Sharrock, the current hit Broadway production of EQUUS opened on September 25 for a strictly limited engagement through February 8, 2009.

Rowling was launching "The Tales of Beedle the Bard" on Thursday with a tea party for 200 school children at the National Library of Scotland in Edinburgh, where she lives.

The author is donating royalties from the book to a charity, which hopes it will raise millions to help vulnerable children.

Recession-hit booksellers hope the book — a collection of five fables mentioned in Rowling's saga about boy wizard Harry Potter — will give them a festive boost

"We expect it to come straight in at No. 1 and is very likely to be our No. 1 book this Christmas," said Jon Howells of Britain's Waterstone's book store chain. "It's in with a fighting chance of being the best-selling book of the year, even though there are only a few weeks to go.

"This is J.K. Rowling. None of the usual rules apply," he said.

"Beedle the Bard" is being published Thursday in more than 20 countries, with a global print run of almost 8 million. But is generating only a fraction of the fanfare that greeted the Potter novels.

Rowling is donating her royalties to the Children's High Level Group, a charity she co-founded to support institutionalized children in Eastern Europe. The book is published on behalf of the charity by Harry Potter's traditional publishers — Scholastic in North America and Bloomsbury elsewhere.

Rowling, whose Harry Potter books have sold more than 400 million copies and been translated into 67 languages, wrote the Beedle tales after finishing "Deathly Hallows" last year.

One of the stories, "The Tale Of The Three Brothers," is recounted in "Deathly Hallows," in which the storybook helps Harry and his friends defeat evil Lord Voldemort.

Rowling has described "The Tales of Beedle the Bard" as a distillation of the themes found in the Harry Potter books, calling it her goodbye to a world she lived in for 17 years.

The book was initially produced last year in an edition of seven handwritten copies. Six were given away by Rowling as gifts, and one was bought by Internet retailer Amazon at an auction for almost 2 million pounds ($3 million).

Amazon is printing 100,000 copies of a leather-bound collectors' edition priced at 50 pounds, or $100 in the United States.

Washington, November 18 (ANI): A Harry Potter fan, who lost legal proceedings regarding the publication of an unauthorised guide to the boy wizards famous franchise, has filed a court appeal.
Rowling and executives at Warner Bros, who own intellectual property rights to Potter books and films, won legal proceedings against writer Steve Vander Ark and publisher RDR Books in September.
Thus far, Rowling has been able to stall the publication of the 400-page text after she got to known about plans to release The Harry Potter Lexicon.
A report in Publishers Weekly magazine suggests that legal team representing RDR filed an appeal to the US. Court of Appeals on November 7.
According to Contactmusic, the writers have offered to revise the book and remove any offending or copyrighted passages, but Rowling has turned down the offer. (ANI)

Just a few weeks after the international teaser which debuted on the internet last month, the full US trailer has emerged online.

The new trailer introduces new characters and shows a love-struck Ron Weasley.

The latest Potter film follows Harry as he embarks on his sixth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

She says that she's been busy traveling, which most everyone already knows, and that she's trying to apply for uni. She's also getting excited for the release of her next film, The Tales of Despereaux, in which she does the voice of the character Princess Pea. The film will be in theatres on December 19th.
She also stated that she is rereading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows to help prepare herself for the filming that begins in February. She says she can't put the book down, "Reading it for a second time has made it no less addictive."

"We'll have a massive party," he told OK! Magazine [US Edition].

"We haven't had any wrap parties, which I think is sinful. We haven't got around to organising. We'll probably go out on holiday and do all the stuff the insurance hasn't covered like rock-climbing and hand gliding."

The actor admitted he had no qualms in signing up to play the world's most famous child wizard for the remaining Potter movies.

"I'm 19 now, and I still have the energy of a four-year-old," he said

"I don't have fatigue. For me, it would be very hard to see someone else do it - especially if he was cute. Also, I'd come this far."

Despite Daniel's enthusiasm for more Potter, 18-year-old Emma Watson, who plays Hermione, was apparently more hesitant to continue in her role.

"I completed my education and she was going into A-Levels," said Daniel.

"It's a hard decision to further your education. I totally understood. She really thought about it. She wanted to weigh her options. It would be two or three more years. It's not something to rush into lightly."
